Turtles are Free

Turtles are Free: 2010
Aquaria KLCC’s Turtle Conservation Campaign, ‘Turtles Are Free’ revolves on three turtles; Cruise, Duke and Mertle. The turtles are satellite tagged and released into the ocean. ‘Turtles Are Free’ kicked off on the 26th July 2010 with the program launch at Aquaria KLCC followed by the release of Cruise, Duke and Mertle nine days later.

The Objectives
The ‘Turtles Are Free’ campaign includes a donation drive in Aquaria KLCC and 55 The Body Shop outlets. For as little as RM2.50 we are able to save one turtle egg from human consumption. The funds from the campaign were hand over to Department of Fisheries. It is used to purchase harvested turtle eggs from local fishermen. Nurturing the eggs at the Turtle Sanctuary and finally releasing the matured turtles back into the sea.

Our commitments
Cruise was released in Cherating Beach, Pahang by Department of Fisheries Malaysia.

The other two turtles (Duke & Mertle) were released by UMT at coast of Cagar Hutang, Pulau Redang in similar time.
