About me
Hi, my name is Cheryl, and I'm the chubbiest shark in Aquaria. I was flown into my new home in Aquaria KLCC from my birthplace off the coast of South Africa.
Although Aquaria is wide & roomy, I'm actually very territorial; If I could have it my way, I'd prefer to float around all day long! Of course when I get hungry, I would occasionally munch on a freshly caught snack or two. On my good days, I usually end up posing for pictures while pretending to be really scary gliding beneath the waves.
Interesting Facts
As a Sand Tiger Shark, I am categorized as one of the Top 10 Most Aggressive Sharks in the World. I have three rows of razor sharp teeth that keep growing to replace any broken or blunt ones.
I don't suppose you knew that we can retain air in our stomach? This is so that we can stay afloat without moving and stay motionless while we hunt for prey. Although I'm actually a pretty good hunter, my brothers & sisters are also known to survive without food for 4 to 6 weeks, but expect them to have a hearty appetite if food happens to swim around.
Where can you find me in Aquaria?
You can find me at the main tank also known as the Living Ocean.
Size & Weight
I'm almost 2.1 meters and some of us can grow up to 2.3 meters.
Diet
My favourite meal would include small bony fish, other small sharks, rays, squids, and crustaceans.
Habitat & Range
If you want to see me in the wild, my natural home is the eastern and western Atlantic, the Pacific and Indian Oceans and in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas.
I like sandy coastal waters, shallow bays, estuaries, and rocky or tropical reefs. I usually hang out in shallow waters but I can swim down to depths of 200 meters.
